Imagine a cosy stone cottage with wooden windows. It’s night time and the occupier of the cottage is closing the curtains, shutting out the twinkling and clear starlit sky. Tired from the day’s activities, he is dressed ready for bed and holds a candle to help him light the way up the stairs.
This is the oracle card I pulled for today.
Looking more closely at the curtains, there seems to be many little patches sown into the fabric. These curtains have seen a lot of wear and tear. Just like life itself, they are imperfect but still beautiful. The material has little green leaves woven into the pattern, as though they are a growing and living thing.
The day may have been full of challenges to overcome and problems to face, but the resident of this cottage knows that he did his best. He patched up things to the best of his ability and now it is time to close the curtains on the day. He knows he has done all he can for now.
It feels like a message of self care. He could go to bed leaving the curtains open, tossing and turning in his sleep and worrying about what was done and what was said. But instead, he makes a choice to look after himself and to get some rest before the sun comes up again. He leaves the events of today in the past.
There is a little creature on the other side of the curtain who pokes their nose out, as though trying to stop them being closed. Perhaps he is saying “hey, don’t shut me out!”. But he can be dealt with tomorrow when the light of a new day is ready to be revealed.
Are you able to close the curtains on today or will you leave them open?
