A knock on the door

It has been a while since I posted here as life has been busy and the days have flown by. So it was with a smile when I saw the oracle card I pulled for today. The theme of it is “time”.

The card shows a cosy and comfy cottage in the woods with a wooden front door. This door is old, just like the cottage, and has all kinds of knots and markings in the wood. The people who have lived here change like the seasons, while the door continues to faithfully guard the cottage as the years pass.

Standing outside the door is an oak tree with a clock attached to one limb and a staff with a bright orange and acorn shaped light on the other. This tree is wise and has a knowing smile. Just like the door, it has seen many things come and go.

Time is quite literally knocking on the door.

But that’s the thing about time. Often it passes and we don’t even think about it. We can’t see or feel it and may only have a subconscious awareness of it marching forward.

Yet every so often it grabs our attention by tapping gently on the oak door as if to say, “don’t forget me. I am here”. During those moments, it shines it’s warm glowing light on the past.

We might lament the things we wanted to do but didn’t, possibly with regrets, or look back on events with nostalgia or fondness. We may even turn our thoughts to the future, making plans or even formulating hopes and wishes.

This card is a reminder that time can be a gift, or a welcome visitor. When it knocks to remind us of its presence, we could dread that moment and sit with it on the sofa of the cottage in negativity. Or instead we might choose to accept the wisdom it offers from the good, bad and indifferent experiences we had. To look back with no regrets, greeting time like an old friend, knowing that we spent it wisely and made the most of each second.
