I pulled an oracle card for today’s “hug from spirit” and it shows an old stone cottage that has stood for centuries. Wooden windows reveal a glimpse inside and a warm light glows invitingly through the panes.
Outside there is some washing hanging on the line. An old sock, a tea towel and an outfit covered in stars are clipped securely with pegs. Underneath, a basket full of clothes has been abandoned, waiting for the owner to come back and put them out to dry.
The wind is strong and blowing the clothes around relentlessly. A little creature sits on a bench up against the cottage with his ears upright as though flying in the air. They remind me of the superman pose as he shoots through the sky.
Despite the weather, the creature has a grin on his face and looks to be enjoying the breeze. He knows that this too shall pass and the sun will eventually come out again.
Perhaps the owner started putting out his washing and was blown around so much, he retreated to the cottage? He hides from the weather unlike the little creature. I wonder if he will come back out when the winds die down.
This card is called “yield” and is about surrendering to the storm rather than fighting it. The winds will come whether we like it or not but they will eventually pass. They may alter the landscape on the way but this kind of sweeping change doesn’t have to mean total destruction. Perhaps instead the winds could be viewed as fresh and cleansing, clearing the air before the sun returns.
On the windowsill and protected from the storm is a birds nest full of bright blue eggs. They are symbolic of a new start and of hope. If you were focused on the winds you might miss them. But like the stars sewn onto the outfit on the clothes line, there is optimism and healing to be found if you change your perspective.
