Appreciation

For today’s “hug” from spirit, I drew an oracle card showing a little monster sitting on a mushroom. He looks happy and contented, as though he has perhaps been out for a walk and now rests enjoying the scenery. This cheerful soul has nowhere to rush to and is making the most of the present moment.

The sky is blue and the grass is a bright and verdant green. There’s no chance of rain or wind to dampen his mood, and even if it starts to drizzle he wears a bright red and white spotty hat and a big branch curls over his head in a protective stance.

The monster is also not alone. A little spider friend has spun a web down from the branch and is enjoying the company. These eight legged creatures have many symbolic meanings but can be a sign of good fortune as well as symbols of creativity.

Times are good for this monster!

The thing that strikes me the most about this card are the cups balancing on the branch above his head. Cups can symbolise emotions and creativity and when they are full (like these are) we most likely feel fulfilled and happy.

The monster knows the cups are there, but despite having five eyes (which suggests he has good vision!), is not directly looking at them. So perhaps this card is about taking the time to appreciate the good things in life and look up at our own cups.

Life can go so fast. We might be so focused on jumping the hurdle or obstacle ahead, that we may not always necessarily notice or stop to appreciate all the good things in our lives. Perhaps we need to sit peacefully every so often, like the monster, and feel the gratitude. To celebrate the successes in life rather than dwell on any negatives and cherish the people and things that fill our cups.
