Hugging the moon

Today’s ‘hug’ card is one of my favourites.

It shows a little creature wrapped in a warm and cosy blanket fast asleep on a crescent moon. He has his arms around the moon as if hugging it and looks content, happy, and protected in its presence.

Surrounding the creature are clouds suggesting he may have some troubles in the world below but he dozes gently, feeling safe and secure in the warming glow of the moon. Twinkling stars encircle him symbolic of hope and healing.

This card is about self-care. There will always be moments in life when we want to hide under a blanket. When the world feels like a difficult place. Sometimes we may even try to soldier on, feeling guilty for taking time out or prioritising our own well being.

But there is a saying; “you can’t pour from an empty cup”. Recharging our batteries for a while, and retreating from the world to wrap up in a metaphorical blanket, allows us to take on life again in a rejuvenated way. It gives our mind a rest and lets our intuition or inner wisdom kick in.

Next to the creature is a particularly large star. The star and the crescent moon feel like warm and welcoming friends and this seems like a reminder to reach out for support when we need it. To not underestimate the power of a friendly ear or a comforting hug to lift our spirits. As the quote says, it could be “the sprinkle of magic that keeps us walking towards hope”.
