There is a wonderful oracle card in one of my decks called “Moonlight”. It shows a little creature standing under a full moon and a vibrant purple sky. In the background are mountains representing life’s challenges and at his feet are flowers in the shape of stars as a sign of hope and healing.
In a similar way to this quote about the moon, the creature feels alone and uncertain. The splodges on his tunic are suggestive of imperfection, like the craters on the moon. He holds out his hand as though reaching out to the flowers and the only other living thing he can see. This way he can feel less isolated.
However, the creature doesn’t notice a moth hovering next to him, showing he is not actually by himself. Moths can also be symbolic of change, transformation and growth, so this beautiful insect is ready to help the little creature become a better version of himself. To help him see how far he has already climbed up the mountain.
If only the creature turned around he would be able to embrace that wisdom and support waiting for him. He would see that the mountains were not there to trip him up, but have shaped him into the being he is today. He has come so far on his life’s journey. He just needs to open his eyes, turn around and see it.
We can all be like this little creature at times, blind to the support around us and all the wonderful steps forward we have actually made. We don’t always notice our own progress.
I pulled a second card which shows another little creature soaring through the sky with a leaf for a parachute, and surrounded by lots of twinkling stars. Up in the air he has an amazing view and can see how far he has flown. He feels exhilarated up here as he watches the great adventure he has been on.
Maybe we need to be like that parachutist and take a moment to see things from a higher perspective. To set aside the chaos of life for a while as we reflect on how far we have come. Perhaps if the moon in this quote did the same, it would see it is surrounded by loving twinkling stars and a whole universe of planets. We are never as alone as we think we are.
