Letting go

There is a beautiful tree nearby that has been growing for at least a hundred years, if not longer. It towers over the other trees and all the knots and markings give it the appearance of a wizened and wise being. I swear some of the knots look like a face!

This tree is a true master of letting things go. Once all the leaves are fully in bloom, it sheds long and thin flower clusters. Later in the year it releases fruits and then not longer after, all the leaves. It’s in a perpetual state of growth, release and change.

As humans we are great at holding onto emotions, people, things and memories. But perhaps we need to take on the wisdom of trees and let go of those things that no longer serve us.

“I think of the trees and how simply they let go, let fall the riches of a season, how without grief (it seems) they can let go and go deep into their roots for renewal and sleep … Imitate the trees. Learn to lose in order to recover, and remember that nothing stays the same for long
